“We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes; we stumble at noonday as at twilight; we are as dead men in desolate places.” – Isaiah 59 v 10
Such describes the tragic existence of the one without Christ. “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” Jesus declared in John 14 v 6. As the Way and the Truth, it is He – and He alone – who can provide authentic guidance and direction for our lives. It is He who fashioned our inward parts and dictated the time of our coming into this world. The purpose for our talents, giftings, uniqueness of self, can be found solely in Him. Without Jesus, we are indeed like the sorry souls Isaiah spoke about in the verse above, those groping and stumbling through life, blind to the truth, damned to confusion and error. Even more than this, Jesus is the Life. He brings with Him not only the promise of eternity, but the living waters of His Holy Spirit, allowing believers to taste and experience life on earth in all its glorious fullness. Before this time, we are indeed like dead men in desolate places, our spirits dead to both God and man.
